Words in Music - Self-Reflection

Students examine their current playlists and identify recurring themes, messages, and emotions in the music they consume daily.

Mainstream Media Analysis

Critical examination of popular rap and hip-hop lyrics. Discussion of violence, vulgarity, and disrespect toward women in mainstream music.

Week 4
The Business Behind the Music

Research project: How record labels profit from controversial content. Understanding the motivations behind mainstream music production.

Week 5
Introduction to Christian Hip-Hop

Discovering Christian artists who deliver powerful messages through rap and hip-hop. Listening sessions and comparison discussions.

Week 6
Genre Exploration - Christian R&B/Gospel

Expanding musical horizons with Christian R&B and contemporary gospel artists. Exploring diversity within faith-based music.

Week 7
Artist Research Projects

Students choose Christian artists to research in-depth. Presentations on artist backgrounds, messages, and impact.

Bridging the Generation Gap

Building better communication with parents. Understanding why parents are concerned and how to have productive conversations about music choices.

Personal Values and Media Choices

Identifying personal values and faith commitments. Aligning media consumption with stated beliefs and goals.

Hands-on session building new playlists with uplifting, faith-affirming music. Sharing discoveries with the group.
